What is silk fabric?
Silk fabric is a kind of high-end fabric, which is made of silk (including mulberry silk, tussah silk, castor silk, grooved silk, etc.) after spinning and processing. It is a kind of fabric with excellent drapability. Silk fabric is of excellent quality and is often used in the production of high-end clothing such as dress and wedding yarn. Because the material is relatively precious, its price is also relatively high. It is widely used in clothing and furniture and famous for being difficult to take care of and comfortable and breathable. Its skin affinity is unmatched by all other fabrics.
Technological requirements of silk fabric
1. Before fabric cutting
Due to the high shrinkage rate of silk fabric, the fabric must be pre shrunk before cutting. Otherwise, the size of the finished clothing will shrink and become smaller after washing, and the shape will change greatly, sometimes it can no longer be worn. When large-scale enterprises are in mass production, they must first go through two processes of steam pre shrinking and drying to treat the fabric before cutting, and then typesetting. When making small batches or single pieces, they need to be soaked, naturally dried, ironed and then typeset.
2. Sewing process
Machine sewing: Mulberry silk fabric has strict requirements for the machine used, and the pressure of the machine presser foot must be adjusted to the minimum. The tightness of the upper and lower threads must be moderate, and the stitches must be uniform and straight, and the needle code should not be too dense, and the stitches should be slightly larger. If there is one point fails to meet the requirements, the fabric at the suture will be wrinkled, scratched and not straight, which will affect the process quality.
Hand sewing: Due to the thin silk fabric, the requirements for hand sewing skills are very high, especially for high-end finished clothes, such as the hem and cuffs of clothes, which require that the stitches are not exposed on the back and front when hand sewing, so it is difficult to operate. The hand sewing process requirements of the reverse side of medium and low-grade clothes are lower, allowing smaller stitches to be seen.
3. Drawing
Because the fabric of mulberry silk is smooth and light, you must firstly find the direction of warp and weft in front of the phase board, and then fix the fabric on the cutting board with a clip or a pin. Secondly, you need to press the template drawing board, so as to prevent the fabric from being misaligned which will cause the tightening of the cutting pieces and affecting the shape of the garment.
4. Treatment of ironing process
The ironing process is carried out according to the procedure of ordinary shirts. Ironing method: when ironing silk fabrics, you should also avoid spraying water to avoid water stains that are difficult to remove. The temperature can be controlled at about 120 degrees. When ironing on the front, you must iron with cloth, otherwise there will be mercerized.
Advantages of silk fabrics
1. Comfortable hand feeling
Silk has a silky and soft feel, the fabric is light and elegant. It has a very good drapability. Silk fabric is environmentally friendly and non irritating, and will not cause allergies to human skin. Therefore, it can also be used for the production of close fitting clothes.
2. Breathability & warmth retention
The fiber structure of real silk is porous, so the fabric will naturally have better air permeability, and the moisture content of the fabric also meets the physiological requirements of human body, so the real silk fabric will have a very comfortable wearing experience. Certainly, the warmth retention of real silk is also very prominent. For example, many quilts we cover in winter are made of real silk.
3. Good dyeing performance
The dyestuff performance of silk is also very excellent. Generally, it will be colored with acid or neutral fuel. Its color fastness is good, so it is not easy to cause fabric fading, fading and other phenomena. Silk fabrics are luxurious and beautiful, and can highlight the body lines, so silk clothing is favored by women.
Usage of silk fabrics
1. The clothing style is determined by the mome and different silk materials
Firstly, let me explain the mome. Mome(mm) is a unit of silk thickness. The larger the mome is, the thicker the silk cloth is. The weight of silk refers to the gram weight of the fabric. Generally speaking, the larger the gram weight, the more silk raw materials are used and the higher the cost. 12 mm is thin and translucent, which is generally used to make silk scarf, eye masks and other accessories. 16 mm and 19 mm thickness are the most commonly used for silk pajamas, and even for ready-made clothes, because of moderate thickness and price. Use silk plain crepe satin for evening wear, it often choose a thickness of 19 mm, 22 mm, or even 30 mm.
2. Interior decoration
The high void ratio creates the excellent sound absorption and air absorption of silk fabrics. Therefore, in addition to clothing, silk can also be used for interior decoration, as carpet, curtain, wall cloth, etc. It can not only make the room spotless, but also keep the room quiet.
How to choose silk fabrics?
1. Gloss and touching
All silk fabric has elegant pearl luster and soft and elegant feel; The chemical fiber fabric is bright, dazzling and hard to handle. Although some imitation silk fabrics feel soft, the silk surface is dark and has no pearl luster.
2. Combustion
Take out part of the yarn and burn it. The silk fabric can’t see the open fire, and has the smell of burning hair. The silk gray is black particles, which can be crushed by hand.Rayon (viscose fiber) has a chemical smell mixed with burning paper when burning.
How much is silk fabric?
The price range of silk is US $3-70 per yard. The price of silk depends on its quality and rarity. In addition, the variety, purchase quantity and origin of silk also have a great impact. For example, chiffon, which is most often used as a daily skirt, costs $7 to $15. It is heavier and stronger than yarn. At the same time, its gloss is not high and daily maintenance is easier. The price of silk fabrics bought from Wal Mart is between $10 and $45 per yard, depending on the pattern and brand.
How to maintain silk fabrics?
1. Washing
Real silk is woven from delicate protein health fiber, which is weakly acidic. It needs regular neutral detergent for cleaning with manual and gentle scrubbing, and cannot be washed by washing machine. It is better to soak for about 10 minutes before cleaning, and the water temperature is preferably 30 ℃.
2. Natural air drying
After washing, the silk can not be twisted and should not be dried. It should be kept away from light to avoid direct light. The best way is to spread it on the bath towel after washing, roll it up slowly to absorb most of the moisture, and then put it in a cool and ventilated place to dry naturally.
3. Dry and ventilated storage environment
Silk fabric has good moisture absorption. If it is not ventilated, the clothes are easy to regain moisture and grow mildew. Especially in the high temperature and high humidity season, the clothes should be taken out for ventilation and air drying. Silk clothes are easy to wrinkle, and because they are too soft, it is difficult to lay them flat, so they are usually hung for storage.
